Active Release Technique
During an ART treatment session, a patient can expect to be guided through specific movement patterns while Dr. Lutz uses manual pressure to generate local tissue changes improving symptoms and function. Active Release Techniques, also known as ART, is considered the gold standard for soft tissue treatment. This technique uses a combination of movement and massage to breakdown scar tissue, generate improved muscle function and release fascial adhesions. ART treatments are effective for a wide variety of conditions affecting the muscles, ligaments, nerves and fascia including; headaches, back pain, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome and various knee issues. Graston Technique Graston Technique is the first and most widely used technique that now falls under the umbrella of “instrument assisted soft tissue treatment” which incorporate metal tools in the treatment of ligaments, tendons and muscles. These tools act as a substitute for Dr. Lutz’s hands allowing him to feel and effect the tissue in a different manner than with hands alone. Patients can expect instrument assisted soft tissue treatment to start with the application of lotion followed by the use of a tool to rake or scrape the affected tissue to break up scar tissue, release fibrous adhesions, affect muscular relaxation and relieve pain. Chiropractic Adjusting Chiropractic adjusting is a technique to address joints with decreased mobility. Although chiropractic adjusting is most often used in the spine, it can also be applied to adjustment of extremities, with the wrist and ankle being the two most common areas addressed. The benefits of chiropractic adjusting go beyond developing mobility and include decreasing pain, and resetting position sensors. The end result is better overall mobility and improved function. Patients receiving a chiropractic adjustment can expect Dr. Lutz to bring the affected joint to the edge of its range of motion, then deliver a short, quick bump which often results in a popping sound. This sound is made by the formation and collapse of gas bubbles inside the joint and is called a cavitation. Chiropractic adjusting is a safe and effective tool for addressing localized loss of mobility and pain. Kinesio Tape Kinesio Tape has become ubiquitous at professional athletic events, and with good reason. It is an effective tool for modulating muscle recruitment patterns, decreasing inflammation, and providing flexible support to muscles and joints. Conditions treated using kinesio tape include the following; shoulder pain, back pain, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, acute and chronic ankle sprains, and a wide variety of knee conditions. Exercise Rehabilitation Our bodies were made to move and helping individuals move well is one of Dr. Lutz’s primary foci. Dr. Lutz creates patient-specific exercise interventions to address symptoms, and improve function allowing patients to return to their chosen activities quickly. Each exercise is targeted to the specific needs of the patient, helping individuals return to optimal performance as quickly as possible. Patients should expect to receive expert one-on-one instruction regarding their tailored home exercise programs. These programs are designed to fit your life and most can be done at home using minimal equipment. However, Dr. Lutz’s creativity and experience allow him to incorporate available exercise equipment and to interface with coaches and trainers to keep you on track through your recovery.
